Soup!

We love soup. We have it at least once a week. For Steven it's kind of a little part of his heritage. His grandpa used to make soups that people would rave about. Unfortunately, his grandpa never wrote anything down; he'd say he, "just threw stuff in." Also, we've never tasted his soup. One of Steven's aunts may know the secrets, but she lives in California and we don't see her much.
So when Steven mentioned he wanted to learn to make soup, to one day follow his grandpa's delicious footsteps, I thought I'd give him a nudge.
When I bought him a soup cookbook for Christmas I thought he would think it nifty but maybe take a while to get to it. Nope, he was pouring over it that night, picking soups to start trying.
First soup attempt. The recipe was off. The consistency wasn't right but the taste was great. They've only improved from there.
This was one of my favorites, zupa toscano.
He tries a new one every week. I love it. Delicious soup, plus a set night a week that I'm not responsible for dinner, I think I got the better part of this gift :)

  1. Who knew there was a 'soup gene'?! He's following in some talented footsteps with his grandpa's soups!
