Ode to my Ma

My mom's birthday was at the beginning of February, but this isn't about her birthday, it's about her. She combines her birthday either with her granddaughter or her mother-in-law. Usually, she puts all the focus on them, as you can kind of tell by the picture. She's good at that, she always has been. I know most moms put their children first, but I feel like my mom always puts everyone else besides herself first.
She's one of the most selfless people I know. She will do anything for anyone if it's in her power to do. I don't think it's possible for her to say 'no.' Many people take advantage of this at times, but even if it frustrates her or is a big inconvenience she will find a way to work it out so she can help whoever it may be. She can't stand the thought of leaving someone out, disappointing, or inconveniencing anyone.
My mom tends to take the brunt of many jokes, and unfortunately a lot of undue criticism too. She handles it all like a queen, and with a smile. I think us lesser mortals feel like it's our place to humble such a near-perfect being :) plus she is just really funny, and has a habit of jumbling words in hilarious ways ;)
Yes, I know she's not absolutely perfect, but in many ways she comes pretty close, and to me she is the perfect mom. I hope I can be half the mom she is, and I'm glad I have her example.
I love this picture because it captures perfectly why her grandchildren, and pretty much most children, love her to pieces. She just has a way if making them feel special. She gives up much needed naps to play with her grand babies. No one can get a smile or laugh like Grammie can!
Anywho, Steven and I are so very blessed to have such great, selfless, hard working and generous parents. I've just been thinking lately about all that my mom does and puts up with, and I wanted to put a little spotlight on her; she would never do it for herself :)
Love you mummy!

  1. Sniff, sniff. I love you.
Thank you for the lovely pictures (though we could have done without the one on the table) :)
